Responsibilities:

Interact with multidisciplinary teams for rapid execution of design concepts. Perform all mechanical analysis,design and documentation tasks with a minimum of oversight. Build, test, and revise laser packages and tooling through concept, prototype and production stages.  Provide technical oversight to Program Managers to help assure successful project completion (meet or beat schedule, performance, quality, and financial metrics).

Requirements:-

• MS degree with at least 4 years of relevant work experience or BS degree with at least 6 years of relevant work experience in Mechanical Engineering discipline.  Opto-mechanical and precision mechanism design experience, especially with lasers and photonic packaging, is highly desirable.
• Demonstration of strong fundamental understanding of engineering theory with particular application to: mechanical design, thermal analysis, electro-optic device characterization, and tolerancing for the precision mounting of optical components.
• SolidWorks experience required.
• Demonstrated ability to perform Design for Manufacturing, Failure Mode Analysis, Design of Experiments, and similar tasks on complex mechanical systems.

Responsibilities:

• Develop assembly and test procedures for laser diode packages and sub-systems.
  
• Design, procure, assemble and test mechanical assembly fixtures and electro-optic test equipment for laser diode packages and sub-assemblies.
• Document prototype assembly and test procedures and train manufacturing technicians and operators. Develop manufacturing work instructions.
• Perform data analysis and Failure Mode Analysis for laser packages and sub-systems. Assist manufacturing engineering in resolving packaging process related issues.
• Identify and lead continuous improvement projects and programs.
  
• Develop yield metrics and SPC protocols for package product development.
  
• Perform equipment capacity modeling and make new equipment purchase recommendations.
  
• Evaluate laser diode package assembly methods and equipment capabilities.

Requirements:-

• BS in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or Physics, or equivalent.   MS or PhD degree is highly preferred.
• Min 3 years work experience in a related field.
  
• Strong fundamental understanding of engineering theory and methods, particularly miniature component assembly, mechanical design, material properties, and electro-optic device characterization.
• Experience with designing and building precision mechanical or electro-optic products and assembly/test tooling.
• Ability to develop laser diode package assembly and test methods using good engineering disciple and accurate data analysis.
• Experience with package assembly processes such as thin film metallization, plating, reflow soldering, epoxies, wire bonding, miniature component placement and assembly, inspection, and in-line testing.
• Ability to create a complete engineering solution with minimal supervision.
  
• Ability to clearly and effectively summarize and present results and conclusions.
  
• Ability to effectively generate technical and status reports in a timely manner.
  
• Understanding of telecom and/or high power laser diode packaging desirable.
  
• Solid Works or other CAD software experience desirable.
  
• Knowledge of automated instrumentation, GPIB interfacing desirable.
  
• Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook
  
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate and interact with all levels of personnel within the organization, including presenting information and responding to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
